Come see The Wild Party!

I have been crazy busy with work, an internship, classes, and theatre, but it’s been absolutely worth every minute of time (and every minute or hour of sleep lost). All of my theatrical energy and time has been spent assistant directing a stellar production of Michael John LaChiusa and George C. Wolfe’s The Wild Party for the Department of Theatre & Dance at The University of Texas at Austin. The Wild Party goes up in t-minus 15 days, and I couldn’t be more excited! Post-Performance Thoughts on Miss Julie

FullSizeRender

I was very pleased with my production of Miss Julie, both because it was a great performance by some very talented friends and beautifully designed by fantastic artists, but also because I survived designing lights, props, and the set on my own. This show was exhausting because my responsibilities went way beyond the normal responsibilities of a director, which is both good and bad. It’s great that I’m able to learn more about various aspects of design, and that I had control over the world I created for the play both physically and with the actors. However, having total control made me a little scatter-brained at times, and I felt I wasn’t able to provide everything I needed for my actors because I wasn’t just thinking about their work, but how would the light hit them, did we need music at this moment, where will I get the glasses they need to be holding, etc. It was a difficult show, both to design and direct, but I received good feedback from friends whose opinions I value highly, and overall I consider this show a success. Now on to more 1920s debauchery with The Wild Party!

Blog-ception

I’m currently directing a production of Miss Julie for Round About Players, the student theatre company for which I serve as the Marketing Chair. I’ll be updating the RAP blog with interesting things about the production. And I’ll be posting the link to that blog on this blog. So get your blog fix and keep up with my blog about my other blog!

She So Loved the Moon

If you, anonymous reader, had any desire to see me dramatically act in a short film with a supernatural twist, then you are in luck. Not only did I get to play the conniving little sister, which was fun, but I also got to act with my roommate, Aya. This was a lot of fun to shoot and turned out really well! Watch She So Loved the Moon, and take note of the cast and crew at the end because they’re all really awesome humans (or maybe wolves?).

Austin Critic’s Table Awards – Refugia

I am beyond excited to hear that Refugia, the production for which I served as dramaturg, has been nominated for SEVEN Austin Critic’s Table Awards. Refugia and one other production were nominated for seven awards each, the most nominations for one production this year. I am so grateful to have worked on such a wonderful production with talented actors from The University of Texas at Austin and The Moving Company. Check out all of the stellar nominees.
